Making chicken wings in air fryer is a quick, simple, and mess-free way to cook this appetizer favorite.

I use the air fryer for all sorts of dishes that would normally be deep fried just to use less oil, cook more conveniently with less cleanup time, and improve the nutritional value of what I’m cooking.

If you have an air fryer and use it regularly, that I don’t have to tell you the benefits, but I definitely want to share my tips for how to cook chicken wings in air fryer.  The air fryer is also perfect for reheating so head over to this article if you want to know how to reheat fried chicken in air fryer.

How to Make Chicken Wings in Air Fryer

If you’re making chicken wings in the air fryer, it’s going to cook faster than in the oven. The preheating time is usually quicker, and then the overall cooking time is shorter as well. So, it’s a good way to save some time on cooking, and the wings come out just as delicious.

This recipe uses one pound of chicken wings. You’ll have to modify your cooking time a little bit if you’re using more or less than that amount.

  1. Preheat the air fryer to 400 degrees Fahrenheit.
  2. Pat down the chicken wings using a dry paper towel to get rid of the excess moisture.
  3. Then, add the chicken wings to a mixing bowl and coat with oil, lemon pepper, and garlic salt.
  4. Make sure the wings are coated evenly, and then add them to an air fryer basket.
  5. Let them cook for about 8 minutes on each side, which means a total of 16 minutes. Ensure there’s enough space between the wings for them to cook evenly.

How Long to Cook Chicken Wings in Air Fryer?

If you’re cooking about a pound of chicken wings, then you’ll need to cook them for about 16 minutes altogether. In the air fryer basket, they’ll need to cook for around 8 minutes on each side.

How do you know when they’re done cooking? The wings should be crispy and the skin should have a golden brown appearance.

What about if you’re cooking a double batch, cooking 2 pounds of chicken wings at once? You don’t need to double the cooking time.

The double batch will take about 18 to 22 minutes in the air fryer. That means you’re cooking for about 9 to 11 minutes on each side.

Once again, keep on cooking the chicken in the air fryer until the exterior becomes a nice golden brown and has a crispy texture to it.

How Long to Cook Frozen Chicken Wings in Air Fryer?

If you want to take frozen chicken straight from the freezer and cook it in the air fryer, you’ll need to change up the cooking time a little bit. Of course, frozen chicken wings will take a little longer to cook than thawed ones will.

How to cook frozen chicken wings in air fryer? They can be cooked the same way as I discussed above, heated up the air fryer to 400 degrees Fahrenheit before you put the wings in the basket.

Also make sure there’s enough space for them to cook evenly. They will need to cook for anywhere from 15 to 20 minutes.

The important thing about cooking frozen chicken wings in the air fryer is that you need to make sure they heat all the way through.

How to Reheat Chicken Wings in the Air Fryer

If you’re just warming chicken wings in the air fryer and not trying to cook them all the way through, it won’t take as long to heat them.

You want to preheat the air fryer to 360 degrees Fahrenheit. Once it’s heated, you can add your chicken wings, cooking a pound of them for about 5 minutes.

Once they’re warm all the way through, they’re done cooking. You can check them with an instant read thermometer, which should read 165 degrees at the interior of the chicken wings, if they are finished cooking.

How to Cook Whole Chicken Wings in Air Fryer

Whole chicken wings are going to be a bit bigger than the small chicken wing pieces, and because they’re bigger and denser, they will need to cook for longer.

You can use the same cooking method that I’ve described above for cooking chicken wings in the air fryer, but you’re going to need to increase the cooking time.

Preheat your air fryer to 400 degrees Fahrenheit, which should take about 5 minutes to heat up all the way. Then, you can add your whole chicken wings and cook them for about 10 minutes. Then, flip them over and cook for an additional 8 to 10 minutes.

You can check them with the instant read thermometer to see if the internal temperature has reached 165 degrees Fahrenheit.

As you can see, they take about as long to cook in the air fryer as small frozen chicken wings.
