What Noodles for Stir Fry?
You should be using noodles that are classified as either Chinese noodles or Lo Mein noodles. These will be long, round noodles and never flat.
If you want your stir fry noodles to taste just like restaurant quality dishes, then buy prepackaged, precooked noodles. They’re easier and faster to cook, and the taste will be very similar if not identical to what you can get from a Chinese takeout restaurant.
If you’re wondering what kind of noodles for stir fry to use, it may depend on what’s available to you. If you’re not finding the proper noodles in your local grocery store, you may want to go to a specialty Asian grocery and see what they have on offer.
Rice noodles are a good option, made from rice grains and very healthy. They are an excellent alternative to noodles made with flour, particularly for people who are trying to watch their carbohydrate intake as well as for those who have a gluten allergy.
How to Stir Fry Rice Noodles
How you make this would be based on which kind of noodles you’re getting and whether you’re adding meat to the dish or not. If your meat isn’t precooked, you’ll want to get started on that first. Typically, chicken, beef, or pork is added to the dish. The meat will take longer to cook than the rest of your stir fry, so you definitely want to get started on that first of all.
You can fully cook the chicken, beef, or whatever else you’re using before adding it to the rest of the stir fry.
How to cook rice noodles for stir fry? You’re going to want to cook them before adding them in with the rest of your food as well.
Stir fry noodles typically have veggies and seasoning in that. The veggies may be able to cook up in a wok or frying pan on the stove. You may also want to warm up the veggies in a microwave safe bowl in the microwave.
Follow the package instructions to cook the noodles. Those can be pretty easy to make on the stovetop, usually boiling enough water for your package of noodles, and once the water is boiled, you’ll add in the stir fry noodles.
Once the noodles have softened, you can drain them. Usually, you won’t need to rinse stir fry noodles, but you may need to add a little oil to them so that they don’t stick together and get mushy and sticky.
Usually, about a tablespoon of oil is enough for a package of stir fry noodles. You can use any kind of cooking oil for this task.
How to Stir Fry Ramen Noodles
A good alternative to rice noodles or traditional stir fry noodles is ramen noodles. They’re really quick and easy to make up, and most people already know how to make them.
You’ll want to follow the package instructions, but they’re usually made by boiling enough water to cover the noodles, and then add the noodles to the water once it’s boiling. Cook that for three minutes and then drain the water out.
Add your seasoning, and then you have noodles ready for stir fry. You can just add them to your meat and veggies once those are finished cooking.
How to Cook Egg Noodles for Stir Fry
To change things up a little bit, you may want to try egg noodles in your stir fry. These are flatter, wavy noodles that are usually found in Chinese soups.
Once again, follow the package instructions for these noodles, and they can be added to the rest of your stir fry after they are fully cooked.
The packaging instructions for egg noodles may call for you to add fat and salt, but that’s not necessary if you’re adding them to a larger stir fry. You’ll be seasoning your stir fry, so your seasoning will already include salt.
If you’re putting meat into the stir fry, that will have some fat with it, and adding fat to the egg noodles isn’t necessary.
Making the Stir Fry
When you put together the stir fry, you’ll be combining noodles, vegetables, and usually meat that are all already cooked, in most cases. That makes things pretty simple if you cook all of them before combining them.
You can combine these three components into a wok or a large frying pan on the stove top.
Add in your seasonings, like ginger, soy sauce, and or teriyaki sauce. Warm everything together in a little bit of oil. Sesame or peanut oil make for good cooking oils for stir fry. You only need to cook everything long enough for it to warm.
It’s best to add the oil into the pan before your other foods so that the food doesn’t become overly greasy. Warm up the oil first, and once it’s hot you can add all your other components together and stir for just a few minutes on medium heat.
