Guava Souffle with Custard Sauce

Ingredients

  • 1/2 lb guava paste
  • 1/2 cup guava nectar
  • 1 tbsp rum
  • 4 egg whites
  • 4 egg yolks
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 cup hot milk
  • 1 tbsp vanilla extract
  • sugar for dusting
  • butter for greasing the dish

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Mix the guava paste with the guava juice and rum in a saucepan over low heat. Keep on stirring to remove any lumps.
  • Grease a baking dish with butter and dust with some sugar.
  • Beat the egg whites until they form stiff peaks and add to the cool guava puree.
  • Add the mixture to the baking dish and bake until it changes colour.
  • Beat the egg yolks in a bowl and add the vanilla extract and sugar.
  • Add the milk and stir well.
  • Cook over medium heat and stir until the custard thickens.
  • Serve the custard on top of the guava paste and let it cool.
