Creamed Peas and Pearl Onions

If you’re looking for a recipe to mimic the taste of Bird’s Eye frozen peas and pearl onions, this will give the same amazing flavor but with a creamy kick.

  • 1 (14-ounce) bag frozen pearl onions
  • 5 cups fresh or frozen peas thawed
  • 3 tbsp butter
  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup chicken broth
  • ½ cup heavy cream
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp finely chopped fresh mint optional


  • Fill a medium saucepan halfway with water and bring it to a boil
  • Add the onions and let them simmer gently for 5 minutes then drain.
  • In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium-high heat.
  • Add the onions and cook for 2 minutes.
  • Add the peas and cook for 1 minute.
  • Add the flour and cook for 1 minute, with stirring.
  • Add the chicken broth and heavy cream gradually, mixing it in as you pour.
  • Add the salt, sugar, and black pepper.
  • Cook for 2 to 3 minutes until thickened.
  • Sprinkle with mint and serve.
