Texas toast is thick and buttery and a perfect addition to a hearty dinner. It makes for a great side dish with pasta, chicken, mashed potatoes, or roasted vegetables.

Texas toast gets its name from its supposed origins at a place called the Pig Stand in Denton, Texas. According to the stories, a bakery ordered bread that was supposed to be cut so thick that it ended up being too big for toasting. It wouldn’t fit into the toaster. So, the solution for this order was to butter the bread and put it on the grill, resulting in the tasty Texas toast we know today.

How to make Texas toast garlic bread? It’s not hard at all, and I want to show you how to do it at home with just a few ingredients. You can make toast that is every bit as good as what you buy in the store, and when you make it yourself, you can keep the costs down and control what goes on the toast. Choosing the Right Bread for Texas Toast

The bread you use makes a difference as to how authentic your Texas toast really is. One of the keys to how to make Texas toast bread is to start with the right bread.

You can use submarine bread or any kind of fresh bread for the bakery that comes in a loaf. You will need to cut it yourself unless you find thick cut loaves. Remember that this is supposed to be a thicker cut of toast than what you can reasonably fit into your toaster.

Italian bread works really well too. It’s up to you how tall you want the bread. The key is really to just make sure the slices are thick. The height of the bread can be short or tall- it’s up to you.

One thing to consider when you pick out bread for Texas toast is to consider what other foods you will have with your meal. If you want the toast to be a small part of the meal and just a minor side dish, then go for a shorter loaf. If the Texas toast will be one of the main components, then you may want to choose a taller loaf. Also keep in mind that toast doesn’t store very well or very long. You can freeze it for a while, but you may be concerned about how fresh it will taste when you go to eat it.

Also keep in mind how much toast you need to make at once. Don’t make more than you need, as toasted bread will not stay fresh for long. It would be a shame to make up Texas toast that just goes to waste.
