How to Cook a Turkey Breast in an Air Fryer

One of the first considerations when cooking turkey breast and air fryer is to ensure that your air fryer can accommodate the turkey. There are some really big birds out there in the grocery, and not every air fryer will be able to handle the bigger ones.

It is a good idea to check the size of your air fryer and its capacity before you go to purchase in turkey. It’s easy to get stars in your eyes when you see a big turkey in the grocery, and you start thinking about how many people it will feed.

You also want to thaw the turkey breast before cooking it in the air fryer. It can be left overnight in the fridge to thaw out, though it may take two days to thaw if it is a large bird and if it was in the freezer for a while.

Be sure to give it enough time to thaw properly, and if you want to hurry up the thawing process, you can leave the bird out on your kitchen counter. Just put it in a large pot or pan that can catch the water as the ice melts.

The recipe I’m going to give you for how to cook turkey breast in air fryer is designed for four-pound turkey. You will have to adjust your cooking time accordingly. Larger turkeys will, of course, take longer to cook in the air fryer.

How to Cook a Turkey Breast in an Air Fryer

Keyword: turkey breast

Ingredients

  • 4 pound turkey, whole
  • 2 tsp of kosher salt
  • 1 tbsp of olive oil
  • ½ tbsp of poultry seasoning

Instructions

  • Rub down the turkey with olive oil, using about half a tablespoon in all. Rub down all sides of the turkey with salt and turkey seasoning, and then rub the rest of the oil over the turkey.
  • Heat up the air fryer to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Cook the turkey for 20 minutes. Then flip the turkey over and cook for an additional 35 minutes or so. You need to cook it until the internal temperature reaches 165 degrees Fahrenheit, which you can check with an instant read thermometer

Before you carve the turkey, be sure to let it rest for at least 10 minutes. This allows the juices to soak in, and if you cut it too soon, the juices will run out and you will lose a lot of that flavor and tenderness.

How Long to Cook Turkey Breast in Air Fryer

As I said, the cooking time will vary based on the size of your turkey. How to cook a 3-pound Turkey breast in air fryer varies from a four-pound turkey breast. The rule of thumb for cooking frozen turkey breast in air fryer is that you cook it for about 8-10 minutes for each pound of turkey.

You can cook a half turkey breast and air fryer using this same rule of thumb. However, this is only a general rule, and you still need to check the internal temperature of the turkey before you finish cooking it.

Make sure the internal temperature reads at least 165 degrees Fahrenheit. If it isn’t that high yet, then put the turkey back into the air fryer for a few additional minutes to ensure it cooks all the way through.

If you overcook your turkey breast, it can not only burn but can also dry out, making it tough and not very pleasant to eat.

What about cooking a boneless turkey breast in air fryer? The cooking time doesn’t actually change based on whether the turkey is bone in or boneless. You can use the same cooking time rules that I gave you up above. Once again, just check that internal temperature before you stop cooking the turkey breast.

What to Do with the Leftovers

Now, usually when you cook a large turkey, there will be some leftovers. Many of us know what to do with those already, but if this is your first time cooking a turkey breast at home, you may not be sure what to do with all the leftover turkey.

If there is a lot of turkey left over, I suggest storing it in the freezer, or at least some of it in the freezer. Whatever turkey won’t use in the next two or three days needs to be stored in the freezer. It can store in the freezer for about 3 months.

What about the turkey you’re keeping in the fridge? That can be sliced into sandwich meat or can be mixed into soup and rice dishes. It can be added to burritos and just about any dish that calls for chicken.

To reheat your turkey leftovers, you can rewarm it in the microwave for a few seconds or put it in the oven for a few minutes on 350 degrees Fahrenheit. It can also be added to food you are cooking, like rice. You can put the turkey into the hot, cooked food not even let it cook with your food.

I suggest placing the turkey into cooking food near the tail end of the cooking process so that you do not overcook or dry out the turkey.
