When cooking frozen cinnamon, you may be wondering if you need to defrost it first. You might have concerns about one method of cooking being better than another.

Should you cook frozen salmon in the air fryer, in the oven, or in a pan on the stove?

The truth is, there are a few different ways you can prepare frozen salmon, and each of them have their own advantages and suit certain preferences.

I’m going to give you some options to work with here as I share with you how to cook frozen salmon in a variety of ways.

How to Cook Frozen Salmon in Oven

Did you know that you can cook salmon from frozen? It doesn’t need to be defrosted first.

Now, if you cook frozen salmon in the oven, it’s going to take longer to cook than if you let it thaw out, but you shouldn’t fret if you forgot to let your salmon thaw out overnight before you try to cook it. You simply have to change up the cooking time a little bit.

How long to cook frozen salmon when you’re using the oven? The answer will change based on how much salmon you’re cooking at once, how thick the pieces are, and what temperature you’re cooking at.

In just a moment, I’m going to share with a recipe for how to cook frozen salmon filets that are 4-6 ounces each.

Assuming about four fillets, you’ll cook them at 450 degrees Fahrenheit, and it’ll take about 12-17 minutes.

How to cook salmon from frozen? Let me share with you a simple recipe that uses a minimum of ingredients. You can always add to the seasonings and try it different ways to see what works best for you.

  1. If using the oven, you want to preheat it to 450 degrees Fahrenheit.
  2. Rinse the fish with cold running water until the ice crystals have dissolved. Then, place the salmon on a baking sheet without any overlap between the filets.
  3. Brush a little oil on all sides of the fish and add on your salt, pepper, and any additional seasonings you want to use. I like to add thyme and lemon pepper to mine.
  4. Cook your fish for four to five minutes, and then you can add any sauce you would like on it. This may be BBQ sauce, lemon butter, garlic butter, or a cream sauce.
  5. Once it’s soft, you can put the salmon back into the oven for about 8 to 12 minutes. Some sauces burn in the oven and start to turn brown. If that happens, you can put a loose covering of foil over the salmon.

Keep in mind that thick salmon filets will take a little longer to cook. You can check to see if the salmon is done by using an instant read thermometer plunged into the middle of the filet.

It should read about 145 degrees Fahrenheit if the fish has finished cooking.

How to Cook Frozen Salmon in Air Fryer

Just like with cooking salmon in the oven, you can cook it in the air fryer without defrosting it. This method covers how long to cook salmon in air fryer when it is frozen, and you need to adjust the method and cooking time for fresh salmon.

Preheat your air fryer to 390 degrees Fahrenheit and then cook the salmon in the fryer basket for seven minutes. This will give it time to defrost completely.

Next, brush your sauce or seasonings onto the salmon and then cook for another 7 to 9 minutes. You can check the internal temperature to make sure it reaches 145 degrees Fahrenheit to determine if the salmon is done.

How to Cook Frozen Salmon on the Stove

Another method I want to share with you is a stovetop cooking method for frozen salmon.

  1. Rinse the salmon with cold running water to deice it, and then pat it dry using paper towels.
  2. On a medium heat, warm up about two tablespoons of flour in a large skillet.
  3. Once the oil is hot but not smoking, you can add your salmon to the skillet with the skin side facing up. Give each filet a little space in between one another. Allow the salmon to cook until it starts to brown, which should take around 4 minutes.
  4. Then, flip the salmon over carefully using a spatula and season the cooked side. Lower the heat to medium and cover the skillet.
  5. Allow the salmon to cook on that side for about 8 minutes, until it flakes easily when cut with a knife.
  6. You can take the salmon out of the frying pan at this point and cook up your sauce until it becomes thick. This may take about 5 minutes, depending on what ingredients you’re using in your sauce. Then, bring the filet carefully back to the frying pan and cover with sauce and serve.

How to Cook Frozen Salmon Burgers

If you’re making salmon patties for burgers, there’s an easy way to cook them in the oven.

  1. Start by preheating the oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit.
  2. Then, grease a baking sheet lightly and place the salmon burgers on the baking sheet with a little space between each of them.
  3. Once the oven has heated up fully, you can put the baking sheet with salmon burgers into the oven to cook for 18 to 20 minutes. They should be flipped over about halfway through their cooking time.
