In just a moment, I’m going to share with a recipe for how to cook frozen salmon filets that are 4-6 ounces each.
Assuming about four fillets, you’ll cook them at 450 degrees Fahrenheit, and it’ll take about 12-17 minutes.
How to cook salmon from frozen? Let me share with you a simple recipe that uses a minimum of ingredients. You can always add to the seasonings and try it different ways to see what works best for you.
- If using the
oven, you want to preheat it to 450 degrees Fahrenheit.
- Rinse the fish with cold running water until the ice crystals have dissolved. Then, place the salmon on a baking sheet without any overlap between the filets.
- Brush a little oil on all sides of the fish and add on your salt, pepper, and any additional seasonings you want to use. I like to add thyme and lemon pepper to mine.
- Cook your fish for four to five minutes, and then you can add any sauce you would like on it. This may be BBQ sauce, lemon butter, garlic butter, or a cream sauce.
- Once it’s soft, you can put the salmon back into the
ovenfor about 8 to 12 minutes. Some sauces burn in the ovenand start to turn brown. If that happens, you can put a loose covering of foil over the salmon.
Keep in mind that thick salmon filets will take a little longer to cook. You can check to see if the salmon is done by using an instant read thermometer plunged into the middle of the filet.
It should read about 145 degrees Fahrenheit if the fish has finished cooking.

Another method I want to share with you is a stovetop cooking method for frozen salmon.
- Rinse the salmon with cold running water to deice it, and then pat it dry using paper towels.
- On a medium heat, warm up about two tablespoons of flour in a large skillet.
- Once the oil is hot but not smoking, you can add your salmon to the skillet with the skin side facing up. Give each filet a little space in between one another. Allow the salmon to cook until it starts to brown, which should take around 4 minutes.
- Then, flip the salmon over carefully using a spatula and season the cooked side. Lower the heat to medium and cover the skillet.
- Allow the salmon to cook on that side for about 8 minutes, until it flakes easily when cut with a knife.
