How to Make Homemade Ice Cream with an Electric Maker

How to Make Homemade Ice Cream with an Electric Maker

Last Updated on 23rd April 2022 by

It used to be very difficult to make ice cream at home, and it involved a lot of work. Most people wouldn’t bother to try making their own ice cream from raw ingredients, but it’s a lot easier these days thanks to electric ice cream makers.

Once you know how to make homemade ice cream with electric maker, you’ll see how simple it is and you might want to try it for yourself, if you’ve never made ice cream before.

I’m one of those people who would just eat ice cream until it’s gone if there’s any in my house. It doesn’t matter what it is, it’s going to disappear very quickly if I’m around. I tend to have lots of ice cream during the summer, but I don’t mind eating some during the winter as well too.

So, it made sense for me to learn how to make the best homemade ice cream with electric maker I could. I prefer high quality ice cream and not the cheap, somewhat grainy ice cream that you find in stores. The high end, name brand ice cream is what I really go for, and I learned how to make that myself using an electric ice cream maker.

I want to share that with you as well and walk you through the process of how to make homemade ice cream with an electric maker, then you can see how easy it is. I’ll show you how to make a variety of flavors as well, so you can make whatever kind of ice cream you like.

How to Use the Electric Ice Cream Maker

Does it take very much to make Ice cream in an electric ice cream maker? No, you just need your basic ice cream ingredients, like eggs, milk, sugar, vanilla and flavourings. Then you also add in some ice and rock salt. That’s about all there is to it. The machine does most of the hard work for you, making this a breeze to use for ice cream.

Thankfully, the ice cream making process has come a long way since the days when you had to make it by hand from scratch.

You need to have an ice cream mixture prepared to put into the ice cream maker. Just follow a recipe for how to make homemade peach ice cream with electric maker or some other ice cream recipe. You can use whichever one you want.

Make sure to chill your ice cream mixture ahead of time. Then, pour out your ice cream mixture into the ice cream canister. You only want to fill the canister about 3/4 of the way full. It will expand as you turn the ice cream mixture, so don’t fill it too much.

Place the dasher into the mixture, positioning it correctly. Then, cover your ice cream canister. Put the canister into the bucket and make sure it is centred correctly. Keep in mind that each ice cream maker may be a little different, but these basic instructions should work for most electric ice cream makers.

The next step is to put the motor driver over the canister cover. Make sure everything is lined up properly. Then you need to plug in the ice cream maker and turn it on. As it is running, you can add 2 inches of crushed ice. You will then need to sprinkle about 1/4 cup of rock salt on your ice. Layer ice and rock salt until your ice level hits the top of the canister.

It should take anywhere from 20 to 40 minutes for the ice cream maker to fully churn your mixture. Once it is finished, the ice cream should be soft. You can then take out the motor and the canister. Be sure to clean up the lid to keep salt or any water from getting into your canister.

Take out the dasher and then you can use a spatula to clean up more thoroughly. Then push the ice cream down into the canister and cover with the lid.

Your ice cream will need to harden, so you can put it in the freezer for a few hours.

Making Flavoured Ice Cream

If you want to know how to make homemade strawberry ice cream with electric maker, just follow the recipe up above but add strawberries to your ice cream mixture. All flavouring needs to occur at the initial mixture stage, before any churning or freezing occurs.

This will ensure that the flavour mixes thoroughly and affects all of the ice cream.

Use the same recipe for how to make homemade chocolate ice cream with an electric maker or any kind of ice cream you want to make. Try it with fresh strawberries, peaches, chocolate, blueberries, butterscotch syrup and more. The possibilities are practically endless.

Tips for Making Your Ice Cream Come out Perfect Every Time

If you see that there aren’t enough rocks alter ice in the machine as it is churning, you don’t have to stop the churning process. You can add these components as the machine is churning.

Sometimes, the machine will stop running or become blocked up. There may be salted water that needs to drain out of the machine. Just use the drain hole on the side of the bucket to get rid of that blockage. If the machine jams, you might need to twist the canister around a few times.

You should unplug it before you do that and then plug it back in after you twisted the canister. This should take care of the jam.

I hope this answers any questions about how to make homemade strawberry ice cream with 4-quart electric maker and other basic homemade ice cream questions. Your ice cream maker should come with instructions on how to use it and how to fix minor issues.

It won’t tell you how to make every kind of ice cream you want, though. There may be some recipes included, but you can always find plenty more online. No matter what kind of ice cream you can think of or whatever you like, there’s a recipe for it.

You make ice cream sound easy. I've been wanting to try an electric machine but was intimidated.
