Peanut Butter Ice Cream Recipe

Peanut Butter Ice Cream Recipe

Last Updated on 23rd April 2022 by

I’ve been learning about the sorts of interesting ways to make homemade ice cream, many of them fairly quick and easy. I learned about a homemade peanut butter ice cream recipe recently that I felt would be perfect to share here on this site with my readers.

It uses just a few ingredients that most people have at home and it doesn’t require a lot of steps. I like those ideas for homemade ice cream that just about anyone can do and that don’t take all day to make and also don’t require kitchen accessories or appliances that most people simply don’t have.

Best Peanut Butter Ice Cream Recipe

You may feel like arguing with me over in the comments about slapping the title “best” onto this recipe, but I think once you see how easy it is and the simple ingredients it uses, you just might change your mind.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup of peanut butter
  • 1 cup of heavy whipping cream
  • ½ cup of sugar
  • 2 cups of half and half
  • 1 pinch pinch of fine sea salt (or kosher salt)
  • 2 tsp of pure vanilla extract

Instructions

  • You need a handheld mixer for this first part. Add the peanut butter, vanilla, salt, and sugar, to a large bowl and mix until they are smooth.
  • Add in one of the cups of half and half and mix on a low speed until combined. Then, adding the rest of the half and half as well as the cream and use a hand whisk to mix by hand. This makes a mess if you try to use the electric mixer.
  • Pour your mixture into an ice cream maker and allow it to process for about 30 minutes or whatever the manufacturer directions say.

You can eat the ice cream right then, but it will be kind of soft. If you want it to harden up, you can put it in the freezer for a few hours to cure. The ice cream can store in an airtight container in the freezer for about a week.

Chocolate Peanut Butter Ice Cream Recipe

Now, I like my ice cream with a little chocolate in it, no matter what flavour I have. If you want to add some chocolate to this, you can simply modify the recipe to include cocoa powder. You can also add in chocolate candy pieces to give it some extra crunch.

You can add in a cup of mini chocolate chips as well as ¼ cup of cocoa powder. You can use unsweetened cocoa powder, because there’s enough sugar in the rest of the recipe to sweeten it. I suggest mini chocolate chips for this recipe because of how well they mix into the ice cream, but you can use larger chocolate chips, if you like.

For an extra sweet peanut butter chocolate ice cream recipe, I suggest using sweetened cocoa powder or even hot chocolate mix. You could also try playing around with the peanut butter type and using crunchy peanut butter.

I love a combination of crunchy peanut butter and chocolate chips in my ice cream, creating a very crunchy chocolate peanut butter swirl ice cream recipe. In order to give it this swirl, I save out the chocolate chips and add them after the ice cream is made, melting them slightly in the microwave and then stirring them into the ice cream.

Peanut Butter Cup Ice Cream Recipe

Another variation on this that you can make is to make the recipe with peanut butter cups. The only modification you have to make to the recipe is to add a cup of peanut butter cups.

It’s a good idea to chop them up, and they don’t need to be chopped up nice and neatly either. This will make a very peanut buttery ice cream, and you can reduce the amount of creamy peanut butter in your recipe to half a cup, if you like.

There are a lot of ways you can modify the peanut butter ice cream recipe, including adding fruit to it. One variation that I like with fruit is to make a banana peanut butter ice cream recipe, reducing the original recipe I listed at the top and cutting the peanut butter down to half a cup and adding half a cup of sliced bananas.
