This real simple onion broth soup recipe can be garnished in a number of ways. For extra oniony flavor, you can add scallions to the top. You can also garnish with cheese or bacon bits.

If you want to add some extra texture and flavor to the dish and make it more filling, a great way to do that is to add some meat to it. Beef, chicken, smoked sausage, and shrimp are all great additions to onion soup if you’re not trying to make it a vegetarian dish. To make the soup more palatable for kids, you may want to try adding hot dog sausage.

Be sure to serve the soup hot. If you need to store it in the fridge, wait until it cools down and store in an airtight container period to reheat the soup, it’s best to warm it on the stove in a small pot for a few minutes on medium or low heat. You can rewarm it in the microwave, but you get more even heating on the stove.

Easy French Onion Soup Recipe

I want to share with you a method for making French onion soup, and it’s just about as easy as making the onion soup that I just showed you how to make.

One of the keys to French onion soup is to use long onion strips. So, instead of shredding your onion like you would for the onion soup recipe above, you use long slices of red or yellow onions. You also use a lot of onions in this soup- about 10 cups in all for the recipe.

Another change from the recipe up above for onion soup to this French onion soup recipe is the substitution of beef stock or chicken stock instead of using stock cubes. In the onion soup recipe up above, we used vegetable cubes, and this is not supposed to be a vegetarian dish, but it can be.

So, you can use vegetable stock, if you want, or use beef or chicken stock or combine the two.

Another change for French onion soup is that vinegar or a dry wine would be used. There are a lot of different options you can use for this; rice vinegar and apple cider vinegar are both acceptable choices.

You can serve this soup with toasted garlic bread or Italian bread. French onion soup can be topped with cheese or parsley for extra color and flavor.

Now, you have a couple of methods for how to make onion soup depending on what you are looking for. Neither of these should be very hard to do. You should be able to pull them off pretty well on your first try. Just follow the directions carefully, watch the heat as you cook, and make sure you use fresh, high quality ingredients.
